the ghost notebook & the dream mp3 player
we returned the $700-laptop a few days after hubby's "real" laptop came in. so it's a false alarm that i have a laptop of my own. =P we let go of a good buy, after days of discussion. hehe!
we decided to return it for several reasons. since we got it, i've barely touched it. for me, this meant that i don't really need it, and i'm not even finding a reason to use it. when we're at home, or on the road, we'd rather use hubby's fully-loaded laptop than mine. his notebook is easier to carry (lighter and thinner), more sleek, faster, has more storage, etc... i can go on, and it will make my notebook look like a cassette player being compared to an mp3 player. hehehe! that's how nice his new laptop is! my laptop was just collecting dust and i think it will only depreciate on its own as new models come in the market almost every month.
another reason, je wanted to get me a laptop that I WANT, and not something that he rejected. he said he feels like he's giving me a hand-me-down. hehe! while i don't mind that, he does. so he told me to look for one that i like, and he will buy that for me instead. (woo-hoo!) as of this writing, mp3 players are still the more "viewed items" on my browser than laptops. until i satisfy this craving for an mp3 player, laptop will have to take the backseat.
and by the way, we didn't flush $140 down the drain. when je returned it, he mentioned that when we took it out of the box, we knew right away it's not the one we wanted. which is partly true. hehe! we did test it though: create a doc, browse the internet, check the CD-rom if it's working... but he didn't mention those. although we broke the box seal, they didn't charge the $140, but returned the full amount instead. i think they will just sell it as an open box item. no damage done to both parties then! i love being a consumer here in america! =P
talking about mp3 players. i've been testing je's old 4GB-mp3 player for 2 weeks now. i found several annoying things about it: battery lasts only 2 hours max, transferring files takes forever, synchronizing the player with Window Media Player is a pain in the rear, the player has a slow response time, no voice recorder, no fm. the only thing i like about it is the storage capacity, 4GB!
so now, i'm on a search for an mp3 with higher storage capacity. i initially wanted just anything that plays mp3s and costs not more than $100. however, after browsing through the newer models, i found a new appetite for players that can play even picture/slideshow/video files, and has storage capacity of at least 4GB.
i saw gewi's comment on my blog... if it was Creative Zen Vision:M she's talking about, that's exactly what's on my amazon shopping cart! i'm still thinking about it since it's waaaaay above my budget. i would like to give it a few more days. paycheck is coming up next friday, but i don't think i can wait that long. hehehe!

hey harbs, i have the zen vision:M. the pink version. cool. i watch desperate housewives, grey's anatomy, the practice, on it. hehehe. and the transfer is fast. you can view the entire review here:

i bought mine when we went to Singapore. :) i just don't have time now to "recode" movie files from dvd to mpeg4. can't seem to make my nero recode2 to work. :O
g'luck with the mp3 hunt. btw, i'm a non-conformist, so i got the Zen:M instead of an Ipod. hehehe. Besides the Zen:M plays more video files. :)

i got the creative zen neeon. 5gigs and awesome price - compared to ipod's lousy 2gigs with no fm and a higher pricetag. what's up with that??
creative zen vision IS the bomb! it IS expensive too. im thinking of getting it but most of my vids and downloaded ones are in divX or Xvid format and i don't know if it can play those. well, i can wait for the price to go down anyway in a few months.

maloiiiiks! talaga?! how is it? ok ba? my main concern is battery life and yung quality ng sounds and video, i don't mind the size. i want the green one! pero i wanna see it sa store muna, baka maganda lang sa pic eh. hehehe! bigay ka pa ng reviews dito! madali bang gamitin? is transferring files easy?
i'm not reading very good reviews about high capacity sansa players eh.
and if i'm spending more than $100 for an mp3 player, might as well get the Vision:M than the Vision and Zen V Plus. Vision is not getting good reviews regarding sa viewing angle nya, kailangan daw i-tilt ng onti. V Plus, on the other hand is like an older model. The only thing that attracts me to it is the direct in-line recording. i won't be using that much since i don't buy CDs anymore. and it's easy to rip them to mp3s anyway.
i'm doing my homework, as you can see. hehehe! =P

btw, i'm an anti-iPod. any brand but iPod please. =P i don't plan on getting ripped off on my second electronic buy.
vision and vision:m plays divx and xvid! i'm getting all giddy just writing this review! hehehe!

harbeeeey,
Okay naman ang zen vision:M. siempre ilang months na sa akin, at busy sa review, so contained na ang excitement ko. dati, ilang beses ko yata binasa ang mga reviews. i mean i am spending my dad's money, i really, really, really have to have the best buy. even the guy selling me the player was almost moved to tears with my bargaining skills. :O
i bought it in Funan Digital mall in SG. Sa Challenger Superstore, list price kasi ng Creative ang price din nila, which was SS599. Ngek!!! Ang mahal! So ikot ikot...I found one store selling it for...oops I forgot. Hahaha. Basta S$490-504 yata without tax. Tapos with tax and my screen protector, something like S$511. Pagbaba ko nga sa isa pang store, since I was carrying the box, they asked how much I got it for...I told them, and they were surprised. (They just didn't see how I haggled the man to tears out of his merchandise. He even gave my dad a flashlight keychain...siguro "consolation" for having a kid like moi!)

Anywhoo, meron pa yata mas mura by a couple of dollars dun sa Sim Lim Square, pero hindi ako dun bumili.
As for performance, I have no complaints. Siguro nga lang yung "stop" button. Sometimes kasi I "pindot" the wrong thing and the song playing is changed into something else.(my booboo) The Scroll key and other keys, wala namang problem. :) I can't give you a blow by blow account dahil hindi ko pa naiimax out ang capability ng Zen:M ko. I just use it to play "classical" music and some "codal audios" and watch programs. What I can tell you is, it's a tad thicker than Ipod, BUT I have no complaints about that. The file transfer is fast, you can use gracenote for CD info when you rip it straight to the Zen:M, you can have separate storage for files (i don't use that), you have a calendar, you can store pix (and u'll see pix info like did you u flash, shutter speed, etc. i didn't even know my camera has that much info), and it has video conversion. I recorded videos using my dad's sony T9 cam and zen:M converted it and it plays np naman. (So i even have a video of my dog playing in her own pool sa zen:M, and when i miss Lexi, i just look at that. :) ) One more pala, the usual, may recorder sya, okay ang voice clarity (I recorded a bar lecture), and FM recorder...which comes in handy if you heard a song and don't know what it is but wants to ask je later.
Just go to the store and see if you like it. Hahhaa. Nagugutom na ako. Go read the review. All I know is I wouldn't swap my player with something else. :p
Btw, the "green one" looks bright apple green. Nung bumili ako, gusto ko talaga ang pink. Kung "white" naman, ano, ipod look a like? hehehe. G'luck po sa iyong quest for mp3 player. Just get what suits your needs best. *bow*

i guess im gonna go with jane regarding the video-watching. ill keep it to my laptop. mas malaki pa yung screen.
also,(hehe) i noticed that since notebooks get hot (bakit nga ba???), it doubles as my heater when im on a long trip to the province on those very cold buses. pwede nang yakapin :D
the sandisk players sounded great. i don't know the model i tested though but it fairs as well as creative.
(singit lang) while i was going home riding the MRT, the guy beside me was watching PORN on his portable player. what the hell?!? wala na atang pinipili yun na lugar ah. i wanted to tell him "pare, wala ka sa banyo..."
(infairness, malinaw ah. nakilala ko pa si avy scott sa video).

*LOL* lei, kilala mo pa yung actress ha! hahaha! =P
maloiks! tengks sa review! pwede ka na mag-sales rep, hehe!
we didn't find any green model sa stores, so je went ahead and ordered it online sa amazon. i've been constantly bugging je to tell me why it's ok to spend almost $300 on an mp3 player like vision:m. =P i think it will be a while before i'd make another big purchase.
excited na ko!!!! sa wednesday na darating! =D

if u like the smaller one, (but also smaller screen) zen vision M nga. i asked dito sa singapore, 450S$ siya. almost 15k na lng! grabi noh? pero mas gusto ko yung creative zen vision (without the M) kasi ang layo ng byahe ko diba? and i like the idea that i can watch a whole episode of grey's anatomy sa shuttle. i've read reviews, pinakamaganda nga screen ng zen vision (next to archos syempre, pero double price nun) pero pang isahang tao lang tlga siya. bawal magshare hehe!

im gonna go with jane with keeping vids on my laptop. mas malaki pa yung screen and i just discovered that because laptops get hot they make for a good heater when your on a long bus trip going to the province.
anyway, mukhang ang gaganda ng review ng zen vision dito baka mapabili ako nito sa christmas bonus! sana mga 9k na lang sya by that time (yeah right).
