the notebook
speaking of gizmos...
je's laptop was zapped by a power surge (or a possible electrical grounding problem at home, we're not sure) and he's having trouble working overtime at home. he could bring home work if he wants to, but our pc is painfully slow. he works mostly with graphics, macros and animation stuff, so speed is something really important. with his laptop out of service, he opted to work those long hours in the office. i have no problem with that, i know the demands of programming work. sometimes, it's better to stay late when you're on a roll, than stoppping midway and picking your momentum the next day.
anyway, he's done his research on what laptop he wants, but we saw this baby last sunday, only $700 after mail-in rebates. a pretty cheap buy for a loaded laptop. it was on sale, and there were only 2-3 units at the store. of course, being the sale-maniacs that we are, we bought one, without seeing the floor model (a really bad move). we decided we will not open the box until we've compared it with the ones that je already researched about. once the box is opened, we will not get a full refund should we decided to bring it back to the store. so that's what he did, compared the specs. all specs were great, not the best of the most recent business-class high-end models, but the best for the laptop's price. a really good buy.
yesterday morning, when he opened the notebook, he realized he overlooked one thing. he was turned off by the keyboard layout. he wants the insert, delete, home, end, page up and page down keys to be like what it is on desktop keyboards. he was like a kid asking for Super Mario Brothers 3, but got Mario Land instead. he was so disappointed, he called me up while i'm on my way to work. if we will return it, we will be flushing $140 down the drain. so since this is a good buy anyways, we decided to keep it, and get a different one for je.
so there, now i have a laptop of my own. =D and his is on the way. i didn't buy it myself, essentially speaking, so the mp3 player is still a contender in becoming my second electronic buy. hehehe!

nice! for someone who doesn't want to splurge on electronic gadgets, getting a laptop isn't bad ... so which mp3 player have you decided to buy?

akala ko yung book ni nicholas sparks yung pinaguusapan dito .. hehe ... how about the old laptop? sayang naman yun =) ... fried na ba yung motherboard? baka pwede pa =) .. madaming murang replacement parts sa fry's electronics =) ... kung ayaw nyo na akin na lang! =D

dunno which part(s?) was fried eh, but je was able to recover the data, so it's definitely not the hard drive. hehe!
we would've wanted to get replacement parts, but we need to have someone look into it first. kasi kung kami lang gagawa, once we break the seal, then lahat ng gastos sa amin na. but having someone look over it costs 50% of the new laptop cost already! so bago na lang. hehe!
it had a great life, while it lasted. hehehe! gusto mo oneal? come over and i'll give it to you free! ;-)
binut, still pondering about the purchase. hehehe! =D
