good friday

our office has this PA system that calls on wanted people, and everybody on the building gets to hear it. i was once called to dial a certain extension number, and i bet everybody heard the receptionist struggle saying "ig-ney-show".

anyways, so this lunchtime, the floor was exceptionally quiet. people are writing week-end reports, which coincides with the monthly report. you could just imagine hearing just the clicking sound of keyboards on fire.

then the PA boomed out, "will the owner of a black, 2006 BMW convertible report to the lobby please." almost instantly, a bunch of people exclaimed... "oops, that should be me!", "oh, wait up! hang on a sec", "alright, what's wrong with my car now?", "i'll be downstairs", and the likes. there was a loud roll of laughter afterwards, and a lot of heads suddenly popped up over their cubes to see what the commotion was all about. i was one of them. hehehe!

there's something about fridays that lighten up the mood even when pressing deadlines are looming just inches above our heads. =)

speaking of nice fridays, mommy letty, tito ebet and hubert arrived this morning from NY! their flight was delayed, but it was all good. pumasok ako sa office, but after je picked them up from the airport, i met them at the IHOP resto near our place to get something to eat. chika ng onti then we headed home, then i left for the office again. we'll probably unpack later when i get home.

we're spending the weekend at orlando. we don't have work on tuesday, july 4. and just this morning (another reason for considering this a nice friday!), our president announced through an email, that we could take monday (july 3) off as well! woo-hooo! 4-day weekend!

btw, the newbie replied to our president thanking him personally for declaring monday a day-off. he copied me on the email. =P goodness, this guy's got a lot of guts to email the president, but not to go down the caf to get some food in his red-white-blue attire!

and another one on this great friday. my manager dropped by my cube today to give some fairly good news. he gave me a 1% increase in my annual salary. hehehe! the remarkable thing about that is, i'm not even eligible for that increase yet! =) i've only been with the company for 3 months, you have to be a permanent employee for at least a year before you qualify. he said that's his way of saying thank you for doing an awesome job after being "thrown right into the fire".

the raise would probably increase my bi-weekly pay by less than my hourly rate. hehehe! but hey, an increase is an increase! that could take care of my weekly gas allowance. =)
