DaVinci Code
we watched the movie last night. alfredo made me promise not to spill any spoilers while we are watching the movie, he hasn't read the book yet. so i obliged to zip it.
the movie was pretty much how i imagined it would be. good thing they didn't leave out any important characters and events. they skipped some details in the movie, which probably took a few pages on the book, but of course, you couldn't squeeze in a novel to a 2-hour movie and expect all the details explained in it. the character build-up was superb, something that most novel-turned-movie works miss out on. they used memory flash backs to build the characters. alfredo said that for those who haven't read the book yet, that helps understand why a certain character behaves and reacts the way he does. which is true. the book could give you the background of the character, movies have a hard time doing that without dragging the viewers into ho-hum scenes. but this movie did it so subtlely, in a way that you will really appreciate.
there were some scenes where the characters talk too much though. i am kinda expecting this, for when the time comes when they need to explain all the symbols and stuff. it's really interesting though, you just have to listen intently. once you get distracted, you'll lose a point or two in their conversation. =P
many critics are saying the book is still better. well, that's a pretty unfair comparison, for a book sparks the imagination of the reader, whereas with movies, what you see is what you get.
now i wonder when they claim that the book is better than the movie, are they just saying that to imply that their imagination was far beyond that of the director's and screenplay writers?
i would recommend this movie for the entertainment value. don't raise your expectations too high, you might get disappointed. but for those who just want a good movie on a weekend, this is the one to catch.
it would make you think the way Matrix made you wonder, is it possible? =)

kaya si paulo coelho, sabi nya he doesn't want his books made to films kasi every reader already made his own film sa utak nila and when the movie comes up, it always almost ends up disappointing the readers.
got ur advice..haven't watched it yet (2 of my hs friends said na hindi daw maganda :( ) so i'm keeping my expectations l o w.

The movie is the safer version actually. It doesn't have that same "factual" statement like when you're reading the book. It just felt like watching National Treasure (Nicholas Cage).
I'd agree that it is a pity that the dialogues were a bit hasty specially when they talked about the controversy claims. It was a good watch and I loved the soundtrack.
Oh, another thing, I love Magdalene's sarcophagus. When I read the book, I imagined it was just a simple rectangular stone with simple inscriptions.

we got seated 30 minutes before the actual showing. =P also, we went to the ticket kiosk (self-service) so we skipped the lines. di pa ata alam nung iba yon kaya pumipila pa rin sa ticket booth eh.
lei, pareho tayo, di ganon yung na-picture ko. tsaka yung Roslin, i imagined it was grander than that on the movie. kakilabot si Silas, he's exactly how i imagined he'd look like. =P

have to agree... i wasn't buying tom hank's acting very much. i loved audrey although her acting is also a bit unconvincing as she did in A Very Long Engagement
by the way, if there's anyone interested in reading Holy Blood, Holy Grail and the Gnostic texts, here's a summary: (yeah, shameless self-promotion lol)

before the movie, we thought of possible actors to play langdon. we had to take in consideration langdon's 'performance' in Angels and Demons so i admit, tom hanks was one of the possible candidates. along him were robert redford and on top was harrison ford due to indiana jones and the last crusade which involved the holy grail.
