Sarah Geronimo's version of "When I Met You" moved me close to tears. it could be that, or the onions i'm chopping for dinner last night. but it is a good rendition, without a doubt.
sarah's version, in my opinion, is the closest it could get to the greatness of the original APO version. although, i think, if sarah's version came out first, and it was APO's version that came in later, i would think APO falls short. i know i'm gonna get lots of death threats from APO fans for saying that, but that's my opinion. and i think there will be quite a number of people who will agree with me.
there's just so much emotion in the words when she sang them. the uncluttered sound of the piano in the background highlighted her voice too. there were percussion instruments used, but they were so faint and subtle, you wouldn't think they were there, unless you listen more attentively. her voice was soothing, almost like whispering. and it wasn't trying hard to impress. it's like something anybody can sing on videoke. of course, not as good, but it's not one of those renditions that will embarrass you when you attempt to sing them.
the young lady can sing. she may not be a Lea Salonga, but who will ever be close to being a Lea Salonga? i think... nobody! at least not in this lifetime. but sarah can sing, and she sings very well. i downloaded her other songs too, and enjoyed most of them. there were some that i think were not suited for her though. which may mean she's a work in progress. maybe trying to find her niche in the types of songs that she can sing. well, a singer can practically sing any song, but there are types that will fit perfectly within one's range. an example is Kat McPhee's voice fitting into those classy, jazzy, bluesy, ballady songs. forget pop or rock. =P
sarah's name was just a name to me before i left pinas. what i know about her was that she belted out a Celine Dion song that got her a championship title. i remember hearing "To Love You More" on the radio, and i thought Chico and Delamar were playing old songs. when they mentioned it was sang by a different artist, i swear i wouldn't have known the difference if they didn't point that out. also, i know that my cousin, Lei Dardee, was her batchmate in elementary at the Dominican School, and that they shared a room during their spiritual retreat. i also know that they stayed up late chatting in their room, so i guess Lei was more than a name to her.
she's the main heroine in the sineserye (or whatever term they're calling the latest soap operas) Bituing Walang Ningning. what i don't agree with the casting is that she was portrayed as being so timid. come. on. nobody does the juday types of heroines anymore, where the underdogs are literally beaten up. maybe that's the reason why the episodes i like best are those when she fights back. hehehe!
she's still young and still has a long way to go. i can see a lot of potential in this young lady. she still looks goofy and playful to me. i hope the business won't corrupt her to become a jaded diva.

I heard she went to UST Education High School. Go USTe. =)
You give such great and detailed reviews. You should work for a magazine or something. =)
I have a friend who idolizes Sarah so much. She just watched her concert last Saturday. I would've come with her if I hadn't been out of town.

hmm, baka naman ur just attached to the song? =p but hey, i agree about sarah's talent. before, she's just another singer to me.. after a while, im like, 'i like her, she's good'...her youth and innocence is also endearing, she looks polite and grounded... sana nga the biz (naks!) wont corrupt her...

Sowi Harbs ... apparently her tour is limited to California, Alaska (sino manonood sa kaniya dun?), Hawaii and Illinois. August 27 sa Maui, HI ... maybe gusto niyo ni Alfredo ng 1st anniversary honeymoon. ;-)

i like sarah! (should've added her to my guilty pleasures hehe)
problem is, wala siyang chemistry sa mga tinatambal na boys sa kanya, she looks too young for her age! (18 na siya diba? pero she looks 14!)

sarah's been my fave eversince i saw her sing live in star for a night where she won first place, my friend's best friend was one of the contestants also but after i heard sarah sing i was holding myself back from telling my friend that his friend is not going to win hehe.. she really got the potential of being a great singer. i always look forward to the champions part in ASAP and sometimes i do get goosebumps when she sings. shobiz eto! teka san mo na-download yung songs nya? hehe :p
