bdaystormblessingsuperbowl

we've been buuuuusy the past few days. i'll try to squeeze my kuwentos in a single blog entry. hehe!

THURSDAY

bday ko!!! i woke up to a low-pitched bday song from je, as he was holding this....

it says "happy boday beng!". he baked it himself, and yep, he lost control of the frosting, thus the "boday" instead of "b-day". ahe! it has a "faultline" too, if you noticed, he had a hard time taking it out of the baking pan DAW. =P it was all good, he didn't burn anything on the kitchen, and it was sooo sinfully delicious! yum yum! =)

he also got me the complete 6-season dvd collection of Sex and the City! it has a glass casing, and a felt-fabric cover, i almost didn't want to hold it, coz my fingers are leaving marks on the felt-fabric. hehehe! can't wait to see it! we weren't able to watch it coz he's going to work that day. i asked him to take friday off instead of thursday, so we'll have a long weekend. tsaka para pwedeng magpuyat on my birthday! ;-P

then my family called up, and told me i should eat some pansit for my bday, so off i went to a drive-thru chinese fastfood store. i ordered this...

after eating, i made some chismis with my mama and papa some more, then just watched tv, checked my email, and surfed the net. by the time i finished replying to messages, je was already home! we went to my fave burger joint, "Hardee's", for dinner. i would love to tell how my bday ended, but i'd rather keep it a secret. hehehe! =P

FRIDAY
we woke up a little early so we could clean the house and do some yardwork. unfortunately, it was raining hard. before we knew it, it's starting to flood on our backyard! je went out and took care of the drainage system, which was getting clogged up by dried leaves and pebbles. more rain, more rain, then we saw the water gushing towards our house!

oh noooo! binabaha na kami! je braved the heavy rain and raked the pebbles to create little "dams", so that the water from the backyard will flow to the side of the house, then to the frontyard, then down to the main street. as for me, i placed several towels on the doorway to prevent water from coming in. i know it won't be enough, but at least, it could help. it took us around 2 hours to control the water.

i discovered my hubby is a good civil (?) engineer. hehe! and good thing he took friday off instead of thursday! imagine if i was home alone, i think i will just freak out as the water goes into the house! we spent the rest of the day cleaning the house, doing laundry, and worrying about the flooding if the rain will continue to pour that hard. =P

SATURDAY
like zombies, we woke up at 8am, did some yardwork, picked up food from the Filipino and Chinese stores, took a bath then prepared for the houseblessing.

yes, after almost 5 months of staying here, ngayon pa lang kami nagpa-houseblessing. =P we had some pork liempo, pork barbecue, pansit bihon, fruit salad, sliced peaches, cheesecake squares, chips and dips, and mini-sausages as "handa". wala akong niluto kahit isa don, hehehe! we just ordered from stores, and paid and picked them up that morning. =P ay, nagsaing pala ako ng kanin, if that counts. hehehe! everything was disposable too, plates, spoon and fork, glasses. we served soda in can too. we want to have as little clean-up as possible. =P

it was great! the priest was very friendly, and talkative, so we immediately fell into conversation that we are filipinos and that we observe a few traditions, like lighting up candles while the house is being blessed, and throwing coins for goodluck and prosperity. he presided over the ceremony, and he blessed all the rooms and areas in the house. he even blessed the tv saying" oh yes, God bless the tv." hehehe! afterwards, je threw coins around the house. he's not superstitious, but he willingly obliged when i told him mama told us to do it. hehehe! no harm in believing, if not to the superstition, at least to the tradition, right?

lunch was served afterwards. i thought the priest will have a hard time eating pinoy dishes, but nope. he even had a second serving of bihon. hehehe! good thing my mother-in-law was there to help us out. she's calm and collected, while we were in panic mode on what to do next. =P aside from the family, we had a few family friends who came over to join us.

by 4:30pm, we were ready to wrap up. and in an hour, our house was back to normal as if nothing happened. =P thank goodness for disposable stuff!

SUNDAY
we were too tired to move around. actually, we were not tired, but our body's aching all over. old age? probably. =P

we just ate leftover food, since there's a lot, especially the pork barbecue. =) went to hear mass, then watched tv the whole afternoon. it was the SuperBowl, and i can't believe i'm into the game as much as he was! i only learned about football a few months ago, but now, i cheer as if i've been watching it for years. =P the team i've been rooting for won! at last, something to look forward to in sports besides manny pacquiao's title bouts on HBO or pay-per-view channels. =)

the ULTRA stampede was really saddening. =(

although nobody wanted the tragedy to happen, wasn't there at least one great mind who thought the venue was too small for the show? or, never mind the venue, but the narrow gates to hold the number of people they are expecting to come? they knew that an average of 5000 people flock to the abs-cbn studio everyday considering that the studio only has a few hundred seating capacity. they could've at least consulted some math wiz about the probability of those numbers doubling, especially since they also doubled the winnings for the anniv special. why not the open fields of The Fort? or of Subic Freeport? or over at the Macapagal highway? obviously, the organizers want some place accessible to the masses. the easier it is to get there, the better. and so the people got there, and pushed and pulled and walked over the bodies of other people trampled to the ground. i'm not pointing fingers, it's useless. but sometimes, it just takes a few minutes of brainstorming to realize that there could be a better plan.

as for the audience, a little less greed could help push the nation forward. everybody's thinking of themselves, that they don't care if they step on others, in this case, literally. it's really sad that poverty is not binding us together to work for the better, instead it divides us more to take advantage of other people's misfortune to move forward. sad, but true.

oh well, may we all learn from this. and may those who perished rest in peace.

DUUUUUUH. grrr kakabwiset.

  • lizzzy! =) ehem, sanay ako sa baha, pero hindi baha ng florida! matatakot kami pag binaha kami, kasi we're one of the highest places in FL. =P

oneal, yep, flalais, chomein, owenge chickn and beef wi brocolli. =P sanay sa chinese fastfood ah!

may point yung pari dun ah, tao ang may diprensya, siguro napapalala lang ng kahirapan. especially since iniisip ng mahihirap na "mahirap LANG kami", and dwell on despair. the network giants have been "granting wishes"... it's like feeding the hungry without telling them how to get their own food. it's never gonna end.

  • wow! exciting weekend for you ha! :-) I wondered how your bday ended (the secret part)? :-P

YAY! STEELERS ka din! I chose the Steelers last minute. Hehe, as the national anthem was sung.

I felt bad for the Seahawks though. I kinda felt they were cheated by the referees. Though I'm not very well versed with all the penalties they give out - the first Seahawks touchdown seemed like a legit touchdown to me. Pero it was ruled out by the referee. Then the first touchdown of Steelers looked like it was barely a touchdown. Daya ni Roethlisberger. He just reached out his arms to make it look like the ball reached the goal line. Hehe. In any case, I'm glad the Steelers won!

By Blogger Binut/Keyt, at 4:00 PM

  • hehe! i had some crash courses in football from je eh.

the 1st Seahawks touchdown was ruled out kasi nag-extend ng arm yung nakasalo to keep the defender from catching up with him. it didn't help a bit, pero the fact that he extended his arm and touched the opponent in the act of receiving the ball makes it a penalty.

the second one, sabi ni je, kahit ga-hibla lang ng buhok na part ng bola yung umabot sa line, touchdown na yon. pumasok yung bola siguro 2-3 inches into the line, then tinamaan na lang sya kaya bumaba, then he extended his arm kaya mukhang nandaya si roethlisberger. =P

pero may isang call yung referee na mali talaga. nung wala nang play-time, tapos biglang nag-timeout kuno si roethlisberger. dapat delay na yon eh, penalty dapat. =)

my gulay! WE ARE TALKING ABOUT FOOTBALL... on MY blog! =P

By Blogger beng, at 4:18 PM

  • super duper naman sa technicality yung referee na yun! di na halata yung "pass intereference" dun sa first touchdown ng seahawks. hehe.

ah ... yeah ... i forgot about that one ... pero by that time, leading na sila di ba? so it wouldn't have affected the outcome. pero oo nga, dapat move back sila 5 or 10 yards ba? ... anywho ... am glad I have a woman friend to talk to about football ... pagkausap ko mga babae about football they normally ask me, "ano nga ulit ang goal ng football?" hehe

By Blogger Binut/Keyt, at 3:25 PM

  • hehehe! i know what you mean... dito naman, extremes yung mga babae, may super die-hard fan, may mga hindi rin alam ang goal ng football. =P i think i'm still learning, but i'm liking it. =)

pinakagusto kong panoorin yung mga celebration ng touchdowns eh, nakakatuwa kasi. hehehe! anlalaking tao, tapos kung anu-ano ang ginagawa. =P lalo na si Chad Johnson. =P
