high school kilig

naaalala nyo pa ba?

reading Twilight took me back to those days when i was in high school and deeply crushing on hubby je. *lol* who hasn't gone through that stage of juvenile kilig? i wanted to try to capture those "intense" moments. it all seemed simple. the strong feeling that draws you towards the person doesn't necessarily have to involve planning for a future together. you are just immersed in that moment of insanity. of that thrill of the "chase" or "hunt" or whatever it is you do to make the other person notice, or not notice you, depending on how much you're oggling over them.

high school life. simple lang. mababaw. pero it brings back good feelings when i remember them. writing about it definitely makes me smile. =)

pupunta kami nila erlyn at ayen sa canteen to hunt for their crushes. i happily tag along, kasi sometimes they need a lookout. someone who will scour the crowd for them, and give coordinates. haha! we will walk into the canteen, screen all the people sitting at the tables, lining up for the palabok and spag, or the iced tea or soda area. minsan nakikita agad namin ang mga crush nila, and at this point, magmamadali kami sa paglalakad as if we didn't see them. hahaha! we keep on walking until we're at a safe distance ideal for gawking. ang mga kawawang object of affection, probably oblivious of the fact that there are several pairs of eyes staring at their every move. we just stand from our safe distance, throwing glances their direction. minsan we pretend to be talking about something important para di naman halatang nang-i-stalk kami. hahaha! we've seen it all probably: sometimes they would smile, sometimes they are just quiet. minsan they are busy with something, or talking with someone. sometimes they stand up to get something, and we "accidentally" bump into them, say a quick hello, or sometimes a longer chat over something very trivial. then we walk out... and when we're not within earshot of the crushes, erlyn and ayen would burst out into their breathless, endless, high-pitched kilig confessions.

it's a different story when you're the one hunted.

i remember sitting in a math club meeting, obviously feeling the weight of je's stares on me. i pretended i'm so immersed in the meeting. i made sure i sit up straight, sometimes lean sideways a bit, and tilt my head sideways a bit too, as if absorbing everything that kuya Rudi's saying. i would unleash the full force of my smile whenever somebody says something amusing. and since je would be sitting either along my row, or behind me, i always do the flirtiest flip of my hair when i can help it. hahaha! oh man, i was full force on my flirting game with him then. back then, i didn't know that's what you call flirting. i just thought it's nice seeing his reactions to those stuff. sometimes he would look longer than necessary and smile. sometimes i catch him taking a quick glance at me without lifting his head from whatever he's doing. i always pretend na hindi ko sya nakikita, but nakikita ko talaga sya, because i myself am checking him from the corner of my eyes, from my peripherals. hehehe!

whenever i have to talk to him, i always make eye contact. i avoid any physical contact with him. but lets a few "brushing" of hands every now and then. hahaha! i don't approach him first, unless necessary. i don't talk to him first, unless necessary. and i never, ever asked him what he's doing, or where he's going, after school.

after classes, i don't go hanging around the corridors right away. i stay in my seat, and gather my stuff, not in a hurry. i would usually chat with my friends, unintentionally stalling time. haha! our side of the classroom is probably the noisier one, with irvie, mea, janelle, auds, jean, abby, erlyn and the rest of the "talkers" (except for ate joyce, haha!), so you can imagine a small chitchat actually could last at least 5 minutes. enough time for je to run from their classroom to ours, and wait along the corridors. hahaha! sometimes i would see him straining his neck at the doorway, looking for me. when that's the case, i sometimes stall more. talk with friends more, and pretend not to know he's waiting. *lol* walking out of the classroom, i don't let my eyes wander as if looking for someone. but my peripheral vision is good. there is something about being in high school that heightens your senses when someone is looking at you. hahaha! and when je finally approaches and cuts me off my track, i pretend to be surprised to see him. hahaha!

*sigh*

good high school days. kilig moments. ang babaw, as i've mentioned, but really fun. somebody's gonna smack me in the head now for writing this, but hey, just keeping it real. hehehe!
