(the boat is sinking?)... group yourselves into.....
the past 2 days have been pretty crazy at work. not because i'm busy or something, but because there was a major re-org in our department. what used to be 2 separate departments, development and sqa, were merged together, then splitted across different business areas. our team, for example, will have our own sqa team. their sole purpose is to make our lives a living hell, i mean, to check our work. the other development team under our department are no longer affiliated with us, and they will also have their own sqa team.
instead of departments, there are teams. i personally think it is a brave, and a good move. dev't team and qa will have to work together and cover each other's back, instead of point fingers at each other's nose when something blows up on the field.
along with the department moving on with a different strategy, we're also moving physically. my team is currently on the third floor. we're moving to the second floor, and occupy half of the sqa area. accordingly, some of the sqa folks are moving up to 3rd floor, to occupy our cubes. yesterday and today, there have been a constant noise of people packing their books, mags and all other stuff into boxes, to get ready for the move. it was also a good time to get rid of the clutter they never realized were there. hehehe! i'm scheduled to move on friday, around lunch time.
i'm excited, at the same time, sad. i know quite a number of people from the other development team in our department. it's sad that we're now a floor apart. i usually just bump into them on my way to the restroom or to the pantry. now, there will be effort to get to see and chat with them.
somehow, i've learned to acquire the american way of working. chatting with people and keeping updated about their lives isn't a hard thing to do, and i know they love talking about their families, kids, weekend stuff, and yeah, even lawns. sometimes it's just a mindless chat, but you get to appreciate the diversity of the workplace when you actually reach out and talk with these people.
and it's also a good way to practice English, although not always grammatically correct, at least it helps me get through everyday conversations. =D
anyways, instead of saying "we're moving on up" because of the nice re-org and regrouping and what not... i'll be saying "we're goin' down". but yeah, you know what i meant. =)

i am looking forward to new friends, but i'm not a happy camper with my new cube. it was dirty when i moved in, and it's smaller. i'll post my "grievances" about that on a separate entry, hehehe! =P
