culture of fear

Warning: categorize under "bitchy posts"

i'm reading some articles about recalled strollers and i was surprised that with just 5 incidents of babies slipping through between the tray and the seat, when not properly strapped, caused a lot of parents to panic. "when not properly strapped". eh hello, what do you expect? kung di mo inistrap yung bata, shempre pwedeng dumulas.

US is living in a culture of fear, where people seem to believe that anything that can go wrong, will go wrong.

i mean, c'mon. sa pinas, pag dumulas ang bata sa stroller, masusugatan, iiyak. no big deal. we don't go marching back to the store demanding a refund. we think, "next time, ayusin si baby sa stroller, strap him properly". and, do we leave the babies for so long, for us not to see na nahulog na sya? anong klase ka namang magulang to just leave your baby sa stroller unattended, "when not properly strapped"?

maybe i am speaking too soon. but i don't want to be sucked into this culture of fear. i love the way we were raised by our parents. tough, pero in touch sa emotions and psyche ng iba.

pag nadapa, tayo.
pag gutom, magluto at kumain.
pag mainit, magpaypay.
pag bored, go out and reach out to friends. or aliwin mo na lang ang sarili mo. =P

we don't cry and sulk and wait for someone to pick us up.
we don't complain that nobody's cooking for us, or that "walang pagkain sa bahay".
we don't blame the aircon unit for not functioning well.
we don't say we're depressed and we feel like nobody cares.

i dont' wanna be a wuss. i won't wish that for my kids as well. yun lang.

can you imagine... waking up every morning thinking maybe the toaster will act up and burn the house, or burn my finger, or burn the toast. life goes on. stop complaining. stop living in fear. sissies.
