Itim, don't leave!

Itim, my 1998 Acura Integra car, is smokin' hot! as in there was smoke, and he was overheating. =P it's been at least 5 years since i last drove a car that's overheating. it all came back to me. =P

i drove home yesterday complaining about my air conditioning unit not working well. i thought maybe i just need some freon. or maybe the leak on the hose is back. then just as i was thinking about calling hubby je about it, i saw thin smoke on my windshield. i thought it was the truck in front of me emitting that smoke. but i smell something burning. my eyes darted towards the gauges, and there it was. the needle for the temperature was on "H" instead of "C" or in the middle. i was just a few blocks away from home, so i decided to tough it out. if my car breaks down, at least i'm closer to home.

this morning, my in-house siraniko found the problem. or at least what we thought was the problem. the reservoir for the radiator coolant was empty. so he filled it up, started the car, tested the air con, and checked the temperature gauge. everything is back to normal. so i went to work with Itim.

i dropped by Dunkin' Donuts, then went my merry way to the office. halfway through, i saw thin smoke again. gauge check, damn! it's on "H" again! i was still about 10 minutes away from work. i have a choice... drive and hope it doesn't explode (they don't really explode, right?), or stop here and call je. i decided i'll try to call je first. if he can reach me within 15 minutes, i'll stop. if not, i'll drive as far as Itim would let me. i don't want to stop and bathe in the sun if i'll be waiting for half an hour. je's not picking up, i called 3 times. so i went along, smoke and all.

when i was just a couple of blocks away from the office, smoke is really coming out of the hood and the air con unit! i saw an officemate looking at my direction, probably wondering why the hell i'm not stopping when i can clearly see smoke coming out of my hood. =P i decided i'll look for a good spot in the parking lot before i turn off the engine. so that if the car won't start again, at least i won't be in the middle of the parking lot, blocking everyone.

miraculously, i found a spot on the first floor. i parked there and popped the hood. then i thought, there is no way i am gonna tinker with the car in my condition. first, the radiator will definitely be hot. and even if i would be able to open the cap, it's dangerous if steam or hot whachamacallit will escape and scorch me. secondly, i don't think i can look into the engine with a baby bump in the way. third, there's nothing i can do anyway. might as well let it cool off, and come back later, when i need the car again.

so there. while i'm writing this, Itim is cooling down himself.
