nang lumipad ang kambeng

i dunno what i was thinking. haha!

last saturday, je and i, without breakfast, drove to Zephyrhills FL for some adventure. see for yourself. hehehe!

Nang Lumipad Ang Kambeng

saturday morning, je and i drove to a Chili's resto at Zephyrhills for brunch. we met my 2 officemates there. that's when it started sinking in. man, this could be my last supper. *lol* i didn't eat a lot. my stomach is too full of butterflies to accommodate any food at all! *lol* then past noon, we drove to the jump site.

the long wait is the worst part. but it was also fun because we saw some first time skydivers there too. and we get to hang out with a skydiving team who compete in nationals. they got the silver last time, they are going for the gold this year. they were a pretty cool bunch. one of the female members even got her 7-year-old son in tow. hehe!

The Lecture
one by one, instructors introduced themselves to us. my jump partner, Tom, introduced himself as the maintenance guy. *lol* he said he's done tandem jump once in the past, and he was the one screaming his heart out. hehehe! he said the team was understaffed for the day, so they called him in. *lol* he's too funny! =P

we got into our jump suits, and the instructors gave a short (probably just 5 minutes, or 7 minutes tops) lecture on how we're going to communicate while in the air. Tom said that during the 1-minute free fall we might not be able to talk. he told me it's ok coz he just might be screaming anyway! *lol* ang kulit talaga nya! hehe!

just a few things to remember:
- we can't "walk" towards the door, so we need to get on our knees.
- cross your arms on your chest when getting out of the plane.
- when he taps my shoulders, it's ok to spread my arms.
- as soon as we leave the plane, i need to arch my back, and kick my feet backwards between his legs as if trying to kick his butt. it turns out, that will help us "roll". hehe!
- when i see the videographer, extend my arms and smile. *lol*

The Flight
we were called to board the plane 10 minutes after getting into our jumpsuits. i thought, yun na yon? di man lang sasabihin sa amin kung anong gagawin pag may nangyari sa jump partner namin? haha! i guess they're confident they're all in perfect health to do this. oh well.

so we climbed into the small aircraft, the fuselage doesn't have seats, just 2 benches and a see through door. we were the second to climb in, so we're second to the last to jump. as the plane passed through the clouds, i was praying. i remember mama saying don't forget to pray. and i guess even without her advise, i would be praying out of terror. hehehe! napaka-taimtim ng pagdadasal ko non, sobrang takot ko talaga. haha!

The Fall
after all the teasing and joking, the pilot gave them a signal that's it a Go. they opened the see through door, and 3 of the solo jumpers held on to a rail as their bodies hang outside the plane! OMG! =P then they let go, and they're gone! O.M.G.!!!

then pair by pair, the rest jumped. i can't recall them all, but i know je jumped before i did. then we walked on our knees towards the door. it's cold! and the wind was just loud. i heard Tom say, "you ready to have some fun, girl?!" and all i could do at that time was give out a wooohoooo shout! haha! we were by the door, i saw Bob (our videographer) climb out and he held on to the rail waiting for us.

then there i was, looking at the clouds up close (i never thought i would EVER do that!) and the fields 14,500 feet below us. as Tom rocked me forward, i saw everything in full view. i was over the threshold, and yet i'm not. my knees were still planted on the plane, but my upper body was hovering over nothing! he dangled me there for a good second, and pulled me back. just as i was recovering, i felt his weight pushing me over the threshold again, and this time, i didn't feel any force pulling me back... we're over the threshold!!!

that moment, my mind was numb. i can't recall anything on my mind that moment. but i do remember things i saw: part of the plane (i don't know which part of it), the fields, the clouds, nothing, then the clouds again. just like when i ride a loop on a rollercoaster, i lost my bearing. and no, my life didn't pass before my eyes. haha!

it was exhilarating!!! that very moment when i crossed the threshold, it's nothing like i've ever felt before. it's like fear and excitement and doubt and freedom and something else. my heart probably skipped a beat. hahaha! =P

the moment we're free falling, the wind was coming too strong. i can't hear well, and licking my lips to wet it is such a difficult task! sobrang tuyo na ng lalamunan ko. i was shouting at the top of my lungs, but i can't even hear myself. i was giving my "Laban" sign as a tribute to Cory and Ninoy, my "rak en roll" and "that's me" sign for Sarah, and my thumbs up sign that means i'm ok if i don't make it. hahaha! i was afraid to spread my fingers at baka tangayin ang wedding ring ko. hahaha! the wind was that strong! and to think na we deployed a small canopy na nga to slow our free fall a bit eh. grabe lang talaga. it looked like it's not that fast kasi walang point of reference besides the clouds, but man, that was one helluva fall! =) that was the longest minute of my life so far.

The Canopy
when Tom deployed the canopy, it yanked us up i felt like my boobs moved to my neck. *lol* after a few seconds, when we stabilized, niluwagan ni Tom yung harness ko. i felt myself sliding down a bit so i asked "i'm not gonna fall, am i?" haha! sabi nya di naman daw. then he asked me if i like rollercoasters. i lied and said "a little"... then he got us spiraling down clockwise (or counterclockwise? i can't remember!), then the other way! ang bilis! walang binatbat yung mga rollercoasters na nasakyan ko na. heheh!

when we were getting ready to land, he gave instructions to hold on to the loops near my knees dun sa jump suit. he will tell me to "stand" daw pag kaya naming mag-landing nang nakatayo. he didn't so i held on to the loop and we slid on the grass for landing. maganda naman pala lumabas sa video. haha!

The Verdict if you'd ask me if i'm gonna do it again... heck yeah! =D
although nothing beats the first time for sure. highly recommended friends! =)

  • katakot nga talaga lalo na yung bago mag-exit! parang gusto kong mag-backout na di mawari. haha!

i'd do skydiving over bungee jumping. pag skydive, it's either you're dead or alive. pag bungee pwedeng paralyzed lang eh. hehe!
