tfc ranting
my family is coming over around mid-april. one of my mama's requests was to have TFC (the Filipino channel) installed in our house. i obliged right away.
this morning, i was in the mood to scout for info regarding this TFC thing. i was shocked to learn that we have to shell out $120+ for the inital setup, and that the bill will be $33 a month. all that for local Florida channels, and 6 Filipino channels?! 2 of which are radio shows that they air on tv. and besides that, they only cater through satellite connection, not cable. now, how reliable can satellite be if you live in a state where clouds, hurricanes and strong winds are as part of the weather as sunlight?! on top of all this, they have a service agreement that the account should be for at least 1 year. if you want to terminate before the contract year ends, you have to pay $150-$200. tsk!
ok, considering that it's a fair deal, what are we gonna do with our cable connection? satellite doesn't offer high speed internet. or even if they do, i don't think i would want data packets being sniffed through other people's satellite dishes. i'm having second thoughts about TFC. i hope i'd find somebody who knows a better deal. i don't think we can give up our cable connection, because we need internet, and our phone was hooked up to it too. closest solution to this is to have 2 service providers, 1 for cable internet, and the other for the tv channels. what a hassle!
even in the US, abs-cbn is being a completely greedy being. and they are supposedly "bringing you closer to home".
well, they sure are, with the freakin' service contract and the high prices. customers were never right with them. =P

yan din ang dilemma ko sister! Racket nila yan eh. Pero, why do u need to pay for the installation/setup? Punta ka sa directtv.com and they are giving free installation at no charge (at least the last time I heard).
Kami naman ang gusto ko eh un GMA7 channel lng, which cost $9.99. Pero hindi pd kc package deal pala un. For us to get GMA7 channel kailangan naming i-suscribe ang TFC din which will cost us an additional $22.99. All in all ang monthly bill namin will be $33 per room. I call it A (BIG) SCAM!

exactly liza! thanks for the info, wala ngang installation/handling fee pag online nag-subscribe! =) at least bawas gastos. sa amin, at most 2 rooms lang. laki kasi ng house nyo liza, malamang magamit nyo yung 4 rooms offer nila! hehehe! ;-P
about sa internet tv, pwede rin. we'll hook up the tv to be the monitor. pero my folks are not internet savvy, they might find it harder to surf channels.
oh well, this is still on discussion table. =)

just subscribe to ABS-CBNnow.com.
Connect your PC to your "plasma" tv as monitor then it'll be considered as "video"-viewing.
When there's the need to surf to other channels, provided by your cable company..viewers can just shift back to "tv"-viewing using the remote.
mas ok ang internet tv, you can even watch re-runs of ABS' teleseryes. Your mom (or you) won't miss an episode.
