follyyyyyy-ic acid for a hopeless romantic

i'm currently staring at a bottle of 400 mcg folic acid supplements.
and before imaginations start running wild, no, i am not pregnant. =)

patsy, one of my desperate housewives friends, suggested i start taking folic acid. i looked it up online and saw that it was actually a b vitamin. something that takes care of keeping your red blood cells healthy, letting more oxygen get to the brain and helping in the development of new cells in the body. and all that jazz. haha! i really can't remember all, but hey, it looks more promising than vitamin c for sure.

so i'm gonna start taking folic acid. i had to give a heads up to hubby je, lest he panics and thinks he's gonna be a dad soon. wehehe!

~ O ~ O ~ O ~ O ~ O ~ O ~ O ~ O ~ O ~ O~

hubby je and i had a movie date last sunday to see The Time Traveler's Wife. we had to drive 20 minutes across the bridge over the Gulf of Mexico waters to WestShore plaza to see the movie, because that's the closest theater na nagpapalabas pa rin non. hehe!

how i wish there's a way to "unread" a book. *sigh*

i'm a teeny weeny bit disappointed with the movie. it seemed a little hurried. but then again, they have to compress the book into a couple of hours.

they changed some of the pivotal scenes too. maybe they wanted to make it more visual. but i think the book pretty much gave justice to the events naman. or maybe i just like my mind's version of the scenes? dunno.

spoilers!!! ayan, may alert na ko ha. hehehe! sorry naman sa mga victims ko. sometimes i tend to forget na someone else might be reading what i write. hehehe!

Kimy was not casted. same with Ben and Ingrid. Clare's family, a mere blur. Nell and Etta, not there too. i like them pa naman. hehe!

the guy who played Gomez, uhmmm, i was expecting someone more buff and handsome. hehe!

eric bana, i think, was not properly casted for the role. in my mind, Henry is more ed norton-ish... payat and not very macho-looking although he's got the suave and can be emotionally deep. i love eric bana, but not in this movie. i didn't see that much depth in his character. i think ed norton would've played a kickass Henry. hehe!

the rest of the cast are ok. rachel mcadams is adorable, or maybe biased lang ako kasi kakapanood pa lang namin ng The Notebook. hehe!

one of the things i liked about the movie was they took away the Clare-Gomez affairs... both when Clare hasn't met the present Henry yet, and when Henry was already gone. although in the book, it made Clare imperfect and human and real (she seemed unreal to me simply because of her resolve to wait for Henry all those years! it's not impossible, but to be that unwavering and unfaltering, i think it's too idealistic, hehe!), it was one of those things i wish i've "unread". hehe! i'm not a big fan of those things eh. yeah yeah, call me a hopeless romantic. =P so medyo natuwa naman ako na wala yon sa movie.

also, i like Clare's line "i would never change a second of our life together" or something like that. when i heard that line, i wished the author came up with it and i wished it was in the book. but it wasn't, i believe.

the book also seemed more tragic when Henry lost his feet. pero sa movie, isang paa lang ata ang inalis sa kanya and he's still able to walk.

and also, the ending! bakit ganon? Clare is supposed to be 82 years old when she sees Henry again, but in the movie, it was just 4 years after his death, and the scene's not as poignant. they probably saved up on the prosthetic kasi they have to make Clare look old and still have the same features.

now i understand why the fans of the book were disappointed. i mean, the movie alone must be good. but if you've read the book and it left pretty vivid scenes on your mind, it's hard not to expect to see that come alive. and when it didn't, of course we get disappointed.

there wasn't much character development too. i only know that Clare is an independent woman because i read the book. in the movie, she seemed to whiny about Henry's chrono-disorder. hehehe!

i'm thinking maybe they should've signed this up for a weekly series that will run for a season. that should be enough time to make Clare and Henry come to life the way they did in the book.

well, i'm still getting the DVD just because i'm a hopeless romatic. =P

  • Isn't it always the case though that fans of the book (any book, for that matter) are disappointed with the movie? Always for me at least.. ;p

Haven't seen the movie, I might read the book pag sure ako na happy ending. =)

  • hmm, that may be true, usually mas maganda yung book. pero may mga movies din naman who stayed true, or improved the book... like Twilight and the Memoirs of a Geisha. well, at least for me. hehehe! ;-)

i'm rereading the book now, and i'm picking up some foreshadowing of events na mentioned later in the book. =D
