hubby je's picky tastebuds (?)

after approximately 21 months of cooking for hubby je (and myself, of course), i finally hit a spot and made him NOT eat what i cooked. the culprit, sinigang na baka sa bayabas. hehehe!

i have no intention of making him look like a bad hubby, i just want to post this entry for posterity's sake. *lol* nope, he didn't throw tantrums that he doesn't like the food, instead, he did me a favor by eating all our
leftovers in the fridge. he's a very appreciative disposal system. =P

the story. it happened last tuesday, may 29. i have a pound and a half of really nice beef cooking in onion broth, when i got a call from him saying he's headed home.

i asked him if he's hungry.

"Medyo".

i said we're having sinigang na baka sa bayabas for dinner.

"Ay! Di ako kumakain non!".

ok, so what do i do with this beef then? it's too late to make a steak out of it. and i don't have any veggies other than americanized-kangkong to go with it. and i'm too lazy to drive to the store to get some veggies for a nilaga, or kaldereta, or any dish that needs veggies. and too lazy to try beef with mushrooms, since I'm saving the only can of cream of mushroom left for a different dish within this week. hehehe!

"Bahala ka na, itatry ko rin yan, siguro, hehehe!".

and after hanging up, i just realized, wow! first time! i was successful in making him eat everything that i can cook... until that day!

i haven't tried sinigang sa bayabas before, due to lack of bayabas here. the huuuuge guavas they have here are not for cooking, and even if they are, goodluck in finding them in stores. =P my mama sent me the powdered bayabas mix months ago, but it was only last weekend that i checked our pantry for new things to try. the packet was sitting at the back of our stack. hmmm, something new. something i haven't cooked in a long time.

well, i don't plan on eating 1.5-lbs. beef in bayabas stock for the entire week, all by myself, so i set aside half of the cooked beef on a separate pot. the sinigang na baka sa bayabas was done as planned, and hubby je had the leftovers for dinner.

the other half of cooked beef became japanese beef curry last night. rich, thick, mild, perfect!

and by the way, it took me a dinner, a lunch, and a breakfast, to finish the sinigang, all by myself. every bite of it, every drop of broth.

hubby je still haven't conquered his dislike for the dish. =)
